DOG FOOD ALERGY
The Food Allergy is one of the itchiest conditions in dogs. Pet
Animals generally eat a variety of processed food, proteins,
fillers, and colorings, which are further processed inside their
bodies. Proteins are combined or changed into substances
recognized by the immune system. The resulting inflammation may
mark the GI tract or other organ systems. But in dogs, it is the
skin that most often suffers from this immunologic activity.
Food Alergy is usually the last suspect in detecting the cause
of dog's Skin problems. Most dogs are fed with the same type of
food for years, so the food is rarely suspected. Dogs can
develop sensitivity to any food or additive at any time.
DOG ALLERGY SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT
SYMPTOMS
Itchy skin is the primary symptom a dog suffers from. Food
sensitivities and other symptoms includes: Anal itching, ear
inflammations, hair loss, licking front paw, loss of appetite,
face rubbing, head shaking, asthma-like symptoms, behavioral
changes, diarrhea, flatulence, seizures, sneezing, vomiting etc.
TREATMENT
Symptomatic Therapy:
Treating the dogs symptoms include; cool baths with or without
colloidal oatmeal, Epsom salts, or medicated shampoos.
Immunotherapy:
Allergy shots are very harmless and many people have had
great success using them.
Corticosteroids:
These steroids reduce itching by reducing inflammation. But
unfortunately, they affect every organ in the body.
Antihistamines:
Antihistamines such as Atarax can be used with relative
safety in dogs. Some fatty acids such as Omega 3 and Omega 6
also provide great relief when used.
Environmental Control:
If you know which substances are making your dog allergic,
avoid that.
